Q&A

What was the first job you had?

Lifeguard on the Long Island Sound.  Definitely the only job I will ever have that comes with a tan!

What attracted you to TSG?

I’ve always tried to focus on pursuing opportunities that offer the best learning experience.  Shortly after college, I realized I wanted to build a career in the consumer sector.  TSG’s track record of partnering with highly successful, disruptive brands was particularly appealing, as I knew I’d have the opportunity to interact with innovators in the consumer industry.

What makes TSG different than other places you’ve worked?

TSG takes an analytical, data driven, and fact-based approach to evaluating new investment opportunities.  We spend a lot of time evaluating the market opportunity, conducting research to understand consumer insights, and analyzing a company’s business model and financials.  We focus extensively on the growth drivers for that business and how we can help accelerate them.  After concluding our investment, we go to work for our partner companies to help them create value.

What attracted you to the business of brand building?

It’s a lot of fun working with brand-based businesses. Participating in the evolution of a brand and seeing the early stages of product innovation to the execution of marketing strategies–it's an engaging experience. It’s even better watching friends or family go from discovery to advocacy with a brand that we’ve partnered with.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

My mom was a kindergarten teacher for 40 years, and when she retired in 2013 she passed along a quote she had on her desk. "There is only one variable you can control each day, and that is your attitude."
